Our Story

Paddle Tekapo

Paddle Tekapo was set up in 2016 by Pete Munro, a qualified outdoor instructor. He has many years of experience as a physical education teacher and outdoor instructor at a local high school.

Paddle Tekapo prides itself on its safe and friendly operation and good quality gear and service. With New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association (NZOIA) qualifications in Kayak, Canoe, Alpine and Bush and a keen interest in many other outdoor pursuits, Pete is capable of looking after client needs.

Pete is a keen multisporter and has competed competitively in the Coast to Coast and mountain bike events, and enjoys keeping fit. He has extensive knowledge of the local environment and weather conditions and enjoys exploring the wider Tekapo environment.

For recreation, he enjoys tramping, skiing and snowshoeing, as well as fishing and hunting. Lake Tekapo and the Mackenzie Region is a great base for all these activities.
